I assure all of you that, that room is not a "hotel room" in Manila. It is probably just a house in the slum areas (I admit we have plenty of that here) that can be rented by anyone who desperately needs a place to sleep in and who can pay a hundred pesos (US$1).The Philippines is a relatively poor country. Our citizens need additional income due to the ever rising prices of commodities. To avail of these basic necessities, some would rent out "rooms" in their own houses to anyone who is willing to stay. I seriously doubt if they have jacuzzis and room service, though. If you people are looking for luxury hotels in my country, there are a number of them. The real 5-star hotels in the Philippines, such The Peninsula Manila, Shangri-La Hotels, Hyatt Hotels, or The Mandarin Oriental cost about US$150 minimum per night excluding food and transporation. Their amenities match those of the other expensive hotels in the other parts of the world. There are however, cheaper, but decent hotels or motels, but they are absolutely not like that in the photo.

I’m from the Philippines. Reminds of the those hotels that I spent the night somewhere in the provinces. I found one like this somewhere in Cavite (?), well not this squalid but would probably reach this state in a few years. I chickened out. i decided it would be better for me to sleep on the bus rather than on the who knows what infested mattress. nice find! You are one courageous dude! You should have the tag-line "To boldly go where locals do not even dare go"

LOL! No way I would sleep in there! Then, after reading comments comparing that room to a jail cell, I looked back at the picture and tried to imagine it as a jail cell I had to sleep in.Suddenly it didn't look as bad! I was ready to lie down, forget everything and go to sleep. Not sure why I reacted that way. Maybe because I wouldn't have to PAY to sleep in a jail cell?

When considering that room as a hotel accomodation, I was sickened by it.
