The phallic object on the “Animals without backbones” book is actually an animal called a Planarian.

Fun fact: planarians can reproduce by being cut in half! the head section will regenerate a tail, while a tail can regenerate a head (or the left side growing a new right side, vice versa); and if you cut them just right, you can make them grow a forked head/ forked tail.
