FYI though, meteorites aren’t usually
hot when they impact. space is very cold and these things have spent millions, if not billions, of years drifting around up there. A few seconds of atmospheric friction will heat up a few millimeters deep on the surface, but the cold will negate that in seconds or less.
As a matter of fact many freshly fallen meteorites are covered in frost when first found.
