The Plot High school student Percy Jackson(Logan Lerman) lives with his mom Sally(Catherine Keener) and somewhat negative stepdad Gabe (Joe Pantoliano). Sally has kept the identity of his biological father secret from him, but he is about to discover the truth in a major way when he finds himself in the midst of deities and creatures straight out of Greek mythology. It seems that Percy’s real father is god of the sea Poseidon(Kevin McKidd). The revelation comes after Percy is ridiculously accused of filching Zeus’s thunderbolt which, of course, he knows nothing about. To prove his innocence, rescue his now missing mom and restore peace among the gods of Olympus, he must find out the real thunderbolt thief. Predictably, this requires him to embark on a great adventure where he meets a multitude of awesome characters- both good and bad- right from the pages of Greek mythology. The Good * Logan Lerman is fairly engaging in the title role. He has a Zac Efron-ish kind of charm, which is purely intentional, I am sure of, to draw the attentions of young teen female moviegoers. The Not-So-Bad * Cleverly weaves together modern times with ancient mythology The Kinda’ Ugly * Although some speculated that this movie would be the same caliber as Harry Potter, you may be disappointed if this is your expectation. While it is entertaining, it doesn’t measure up to good ol’ Harry, but why should it really have to? I think it stands on its own individual merits.. Wacky Meter: 7 out of 10
