If it was stuffed with TNT, which it was, you wouldn’t have to “radio-command detonate!” it. The blast and pressure from the warhead would be more than enough to set it off becaue TNT isn’t very stable. Iraq T-72s were just assembled in country from Russian parts sold to them. So essentially there were no “homegrown” T-72s for the Iraqis, just tanks that were assembled there – which has nothing to do with armor suddenly becoming weaker because armor wasn’t produced there. I seriously doubt Raytheon/Lockheed was almost sued, every defense contractor in the world does the exact same thing to peddle their goods. Lastly, it takes a second for ATGM warheads to do there thing inside these behemoths (i.e. set everything on fire). The end result is similar though, a couple dozen rounds of 100+mm ammo and 100+ gallons of fuel cooking off and you get a real nice fireworks show. The tank won’t blow to a million pieces like the pics above indicate but if you’re lucky the turret pops off. Either way – Blacktail go play Modern Warfare 2 and get off the boards. Moron.

Like “tyun” said, this was FAKE. This is why;

The Javelin’s warhead can probably kill a T-72 with ease, but tanks knocked-out by small charges (i.e., those small enough to be used in a man-portable ATGM) don’t make a big, showy explosion — most of the mayhem takes place inside the tank, where an observer can’t see it.

Ever see photos of Iraqi T-72s hit by AGM-65 Maverick missiles? They suffered nowhere NEAR this much damage, despite the Maverick’s warhead being several times as powerful as that of the Javelin ATGM. Iraq’s “home-grown” T-72s are also weaker in armor composition than a standard Soviet T-72.

So how did the Javelin splatter 45 tons of steel all over the landscape? The answer should be pretty obvious; it didn’t, because it CAN’T — the T-72 you see above was STUFFED WITH TNT, which was radio-command detonated!

Lockheed-Martin almost got sued by the T-72′s (then) current manufacturer over this.

This isn’t the FIRST time the US Defense Industry stooped to fraud to peddle their wares, either; remember the M247 Sergeant York DIVAD?

This isn’t Iraq – These pictures have been floating around the internet for years; they are of a Javelin test at Redstone Arsenal and are of an modified T-72 that mimics a T-80′s armor.
P.S. In the 7th picture you can see NASA’s Saturn engine test stand on the distant horizon – its rather distinctive.
