WHAT ROCKED AND WHAT REEKED AT THE 2010 OSCARS?

WHAT ROCKED

…Tribute to the late director John Hughes, who defined the whole 1980′s generation with films like Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club and was responsible for the Christmas classic, Home Alone.

…Sandra Bullock’s Best Actress win over fellow competitors that included favorite, Meryl Streep. Bullock
gave a laid-back speech that was genuine, without being gratuitously saccharine and teary.

…Kathryn Bigelow’s win for Best Director, becoming the first ever woman to receive the honor and beating out ex-hubby James Cameron to take his ego down a few notches.

…Ben Stiller’s hilarious appearance in full Avatar-like makeup and speaking in Na’vi lingo was funnier than anything Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin said the whole night

WHAT REEKED

…The over 3-hour length of the show was excessive. Having individuals make sentimental comments about each nominee in the acting categories took up too much time. Just read the nominees and get on with it, folks, so we can look forward to next year!

…Did anybody else think the modern dance sequence with people leaping around and contorting their bodies to music from The Hurt Locker was just plain weird?

…Elinor Burkett’s bizarre Kanye West-like interruption of Best Documentary Short winner Roger Ross Williams as he was delivering his acceptance speech. Of course, even though most of the world has never heard of either of them, it was a rude move.

…Please, never use Cameron Diaz as a presenter again!
