Royal Penguins Become Knights

With a medal for good conduct and long service, Nils Olaf III (Nils Olav III), a resident of Edinburgh Zoo, probably is the most honored penguin. And it’s not over yet, because Nils was knighted on Friday.

He became a member of the King’s Guard in 1972, when he was selected as a mascot. The penguin was named after after Egelien and Norway’s then-King Olav V. Presently, Nils Olaf is the third penguin that replaced the original mascot, getting Nil’s name and rank. On Friday, the penguin was knighted by the British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon on behalf of Norway’s King Harald V. Here are some shots from the ceremony!

Located at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, Millennium Force is a mind blowing attraction, a ride that will leave you breathless.  The highest point of the roller coaster’s winding road is 310 feet (95 m). It’s not the top attraction at the park, but it can be considered one of the tallest, fastest, and longest steel roller coasters in the world. Hold on to your seats and take a virtual ride in the steel giant!

The family is finally complete. Along with the birth of the two twins, the Pitts will probably settle down and give up adopting children from remote locations. Everyone’s eager to show their kid to the whole world, like that episode in Seinfeld when you HAVE TO SEE THE BABY!!1 Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline will probably be even better looking that their parents, fuller lips, blonder hair, bluer eyes and even more talent. People Magazine reportedly paid 12 million dollars for the pics and several other magazines got the pictures as well for less. This is some expensive eye candy!

The Solar Eclipse, August 2008

The total solar eclipse has taken place on August 1, 2008 and lasted around 1 minute and 30 seconds. If you too slept during the eclipse and missed it, it was captured on camera. The total eclipse was observed in Western Siberia from the north to the south, then in regions of China and Mongolia. The next one will occur in Northern America in 2017, in Europe – in 2026, and in Russia – in 2030. You won’t get to see another one for quite some time, here’s your chance to see it.

Emma Mærsk, World’s Largest Container

Emma Mærsk, the Danish container, currently is the world’s largest container and – as of 2008 – the longest ship in use. The ship was dubbed the SS Santa due to its load – in 2006 it was headed to the United Kingdom from China loaded with Christmas goods. Luckily for the planet and for our sake, the ship has several features for protecting the environment – it can recycle the exhaust, mixed with fresh air, back into the engine for reuse.
